"Security is a superstition. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller
The many Bible stories that enthrall me all have the same central theme. Because of God’s intervention in their lives, these ordinary men and women all went from living dependable lives to daring ones.
Dependability is a character trait that I have prided myself on in the past. I hope that people can count on me to work hard. Being dependable is not a bad thing. In fact, faithfulness is one of the fruits of the Spirit
(Gal. 5:22-23).
Yet, the wealth of opportunities open to me steals my breath sometimes.
This is why God’s teaching me that He is a faithful God is an immense comfort. In the midst of all life's constant changes, being able to depend on God gives me a sense of that can be found security found nowhere else. When the ocean of life is tossing and turning, I can remember that "He is the Rock…a faithful God" (Deuteronomy 32:4.)
I have to keep in mind, though, that as well as being a dependable God, He is also a daring God.
God called a little shepherd boy into battle with a nine-foot-tall Philistine.
God not only sent a Jewish beauty queen into the Persian court, but married her to the King so that she could be His instrument of salvation for His people.
God drafted a cup-bearer to rebuild the city wall.
God orchestrated His Son to be born of a virgin in a society where such a thing was punishable by death.
As if that weren’t enough...
the Messiah, Jesus Christ, was born in a stable when everyone was expecting Him to come with fireworks and fanfare.
My knees quake in awe as I ponder my daring God and I long to be daring myself.
Have you ever seen the “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe”? Towards the end, when Queen Lucy is watching Aslan leave, she has a conversation with her fawn friend, Mr. Thomnas.
"He is not a tame lion," Thomnas says.
"No," replies Lucy, "But he's good."
God is faithful and trustworthy, but He is also indescribably daring. Pledging my life to serving Him means signing up for an epic adventure. God calls me to a life that is incredible, scary, exciting, uncertain, weird, misunderstood, wonderful… and daring.
No, this God I serve is not tame, but He’s good.
So that is what this journal is about

inspiring others to a life of daring.
